SBI CBO Selection Process
The selection process for SBI CBO 2026 has four phases: Online Examination, Screening, Interview, and Local Language Proficiency Test.
Online Test
The online test has two parts: an Objective Test worth 120 marks and a Descriptive Test worth 50 marks. The Descriptive Test is held right after the Objective Test. Candidates type their answers on the computer.
Objective Test: The objective test lasts 2 hours and is split into 4 sections, each with its own time limit.
| Topic | Questions | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| English Language | 30 | 30 Minutes |
| Banking Knowledge | 40 | 40 Minutes |
| General Awareness/Economy | 30 | 30 Minutes |
| Computer Aptitude | 20 | 20 Minutes |
| Total | 120 | 2 Hours |
Descriptive Test: This 30-minute test checks English proficiency through Letter Writing and Essay tasks. It carries 50 marks across two questions.
There are no sectional qualifying marks. The merit list is drawn Circle-wise and Category-wise based on aggregate marks. Around three times the number of vacancies will be shortlisted for the Screening phase, subject to candidates meeting the minimum aggregate score set by the Bank.
Negative Marking: There is no penalty for wrong answers in the Objective Test.
Screening
The Screening Committee reviews the online applications and documents of shortlisted candidates. The committee checks whether candidates meet the experience criteria and matches their submitted job profile (certified by employer) against the job profile of a Scale-I Generalist Officer at SBI. If the profiles don’t match substantially, the application will be rejected. The Bank’s decision on this is final.
Interview
The interview is worth 50 marks. Candidates need to score the minimum qualifying marks decided by the Bank to be considered for final selection.
Final Selection
Candidates must qualify in both the Online Test and Interview separately. The final merit list is prepared using a 75:25 weightage: Online Test marks (out of 170) are converted to 75, and Interview marks (out of 50) are converted to 25. The combined score out of 100 determines the final merit, drawn Circle-wise and Category-wise.
Local Language Proficiency Test
Provisionally selected candidates (based on performance in the online test, screening, and interview) will need to pass a Local Language Proficiency Test before joining. This test is conducted in the opted local language of the applied Circle. Candidates who have studied the specified local language as a subject up to 10th or 12th standard are exempt from this test.
