Assam Government Launches Orunodoi Scheme to Empower Women: The new scheme was rolled out on October 2nd, 2020 to provide financial assistance of Rs.1450 per month through Direct Benefit Transfer to over 24 lakh economically challenged households in the state. With a focus on empowering women as the primary caretakers, the ‘Orunodoi’ initiative aims to reach 26 Lakh families and increase the monthly benefit from Rs.830 to Rs.1450. Start benefiting from the scheme from October 2020 with transfers made on the first day of every month.
How the Beneficiaries for Orunodoi Scheme are Selected: The District Level Monitoring Committee is responsible for ensuring strict adherence to guidelines when preparing the list of eligible beneficiaries. The initial screening takes place at the GP, VCDC, or ULB level, where eligibility criteria are applied to determine who qualifies for the scheme.
Ensuring Accuracy in Beneficiary Selection: An ‘Eligibility/Ineligibility’ checklist has been attached as Annexure A to ensure a thorough evaluation of each proposed beneficiary household. This undertaking cum checklist should be the only one prepared for each household to ensure accuracy in the selection process.

Each beneficiary family will receive Rs.400 for procuring medicine, Rs.200 for 50% subsidy on 4 Kgs of pulses, Rs.80 for 50% subsidy on 4 Kgs of sugar, Rs.150 for purchasing fruits and vegetables, and Rs.170 for essential goods, Rs.250 for electricity bill and Rs.200 for LPG gas, totalling Rs.1450 per month.
