IBPS Clerk Recruitment 2026
The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) has released the detailed notification for CRP CSA-XVI, the 16th edition of the Common Recruitment Process for Customer Service Associates (CSA) in 11 participating public sector banks. The notification is dated 1 August 2026 and announces 11,403 indicative vacancies for the financial year 2027-28. Online registration opens on 1 August 2026, and the last date to apply is 21 August 2026.
Assam has been allotted 349 posts in this cycle, which is a substantial rise over the 204 posts announced for the state in the previous edition. The vacancy figures are indicative and are based on what the participating banks have reported so far. Union Bank of India has not reported its requirement for any state, so the final count is likely to be revised upward before provisional allotment in March 2027.

The category-wise split for Assam is 26 posts for SC, 41 for ST, 97 for OBC (NCL), 30 for EWS and 155 unreserved. Within these, 32 posts are earmarked for Ex-Servicemen, 11 for Disabled Ex-Servicemen and 13 for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities.
Educational Qualification
Graduation: A degree in any discipline from a university recognised by the Government of India, or an equivalent qualification recognised as such by the Central Government. The final result must be declared on or before 21 August 2026, and you must hold a valid marksheet or degree certificate on the day you register. The percentage of marks obtained in graduation has to be entered in the online application, calculated to the nearest two decimals.
Computer Literacy: Operating and working knowledge of computer systems is compulsory. You should hold a certificate, diploma or degree in computer operations, or have studied Computer Science or Information Technology as a subject in school or college.
Language Proficiency: You must be able to read, write, speak and understand the local language of the state you apply for. For Assam, the language options are Assamese, Bengali and Bodo, and you have to select one of them at the time of registration.
In practice, any graduate between 20 and 28 years of age whose result was declared on or before 21 August 2026 and who can prove local language proficiency is eligible. Final year students whose results are still awaited cannot apply this year.

For Ex-Servicemen, the relaxation is the actual period of service rendered in the defence forces plus 3 years, extended to 8 years for Disabled Ex-Servicemen belonging to SC or ST, subject to a maximum age of 50 years. The concession for widows, divorced women and women legally separated from their husbands who have not remarried goes up to 38 years for OBC and 40 years for SC and ST candidates.
Note: OBC candidates must hold a non-creamy layer certificate issued on or after 1 April 2026, and EWS candidates need an Income and Asset Certificate valid for the year 2026-27 based on the financial year 2025-26.

The fee has to be paid online within the registration window itself, since the payment link closes along with the application link on 21 August 2026. The amount is non-refundable, and the bank transaction charges are borne by the candidate.

Selection Process of IBPS Clerk Recruitment
The selection is a two-stage online process with no interview. You must first clear the Preliminary Examination, which is only a screening stage, and then appear for the Main Examination. Only the marks obtained in the Main Examination are used to prepare the merit list, and those 200 marks are converted out of 100 for the purpose of provisional allotment. Both stages carry a negative marking of 0.25 of the marks assigned to a question for every wrong answer, while unattempted questions carry no penalty.
Since the examinations are held in multiple sessions, the corrected scores of candidates across different sessions are normalised using the equi-percentile method. Candidates can track the release of the IBPS Clerk Admit Card for the confirmed examination dates and venue.
Preliminary Examination
The Preliminary Examination is an objective online test of 100 marks completed in 1 hour, with separate timing for each of the three sections. You have to clear the cut-off fixed by IBPS in every section, and those who qualify are shortlisted for the Main Examination in a ratio decided by IBPS.

Main Examination
The Main Examination carries 200 marks for 160 questions, to be attempted in 125 minutes with sectional timing. This is a change from the previous edition, which had 155 questions in 120 minutes, and the Reasoning and Computer Aptitude section has now been notified simply as Reasoning Ability. You have to secure the sectional cut-off in each test as well as a minimum total score to be considered for the merit list.

Local Language Proficiency Test
The Local Language Proficiency Test is conducted after the Main Examination and the provisional allotment, but before you join the bank. It is marks-based and qualifying in nature, and a candidate who fails to qualify is not offered appointment. If you can produce a Class 10 or higher marksheet showing that you studied the language you opted for, you are exempted from this test, which is why candidates from Assam who studied Assamese, Bengali or Bodo in school should keep that marksheet ready.
Provisional Allotment
Candidates who qualify in the Main Examination are ranked and allotted a bank through a single centralised process scheduled for March 2027. The allotment depends on merit, the state opted for, the category and the order of bank preferences submitted during the application, and once made it cannot be changed. Where two candidates score the same marks, the candidate senior in age is placed above the other.
IBPS also keeps a reserve list of approximately 30 percent of the vacancies under each category, subject to the availability of candidates. If the participating banks report further vacancies within the validity period, allotment from the reserve list may be carried out three to four times. The handwritten declaration must be in your own handwriting, in English, and not in capital letters, failing which the application is treated as invalid. The name, email ID, mobile number, state of vacancy, post and nationality fields cannot be edited later, so fill them with care. Digi Locker has been integrated with the form this year, and you may voluntarily share your Aadhaar and educational documents through it.
IBPS will open an edit window for 2 days after registration closes, so that candidates can correct the details entered in the form. A correction fee of ₹200 applies to all categories; the form can be edited only once, and the dates of this window will be announced on the official website of IBPS after 21 August 2026.
