UPSC CSE Prelims Result 2026
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) declared the result of the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination, 2026 on 15 June 2026. The preliminary exam was held on 24 May 2026, and a total of 13,343 candidates have been shortlisted to appear in the Civil Services (Main) Examination, 2026. The result is available on the official UPSC website as a PDF containing the roll numbers of all qualified candidates.
This year’s vacancies stand at 1,016 for the Civil Services Examination 2026. Last year, 14,161 candidates were shortlisted for the Mains against 1,087 vacancies, so this cycle sees a slightly smaller intake. Qualified candidates now have a limited window to complete mandatory post-result formalities before they can appear for the Mains.
Note: The candidature of all shortlisted candidates is provisional. Marks, cut-off scores, and answer keys for the Preliminary Examination will be published only after the complete Civil Services Examination 2026 and Indian Forest Service Examination 2026 process is over, that is, after declaration of the final result.

About the Civil Services Examination
The Civil Services Examination is conducted every year by UPSC in three stages — Preliminary, Main, and Interview (Personality Test). Through this exam, the Commission recruits officers for services including the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), Indian Police Service (IPS), and several other Group A and Group B Central Services. The Preliminary Examination works as a screening test; only candidates who clear it are eligible to appear for the Mains.
Post-Result Mandatory Actions for Qualified Candidates
All shortlisted candidates must complete the following steps through the UPSC Online portal between 19 June 2026 and 28 June 2026. Failure to submit the application form within this window will disqualify candidates from further stages of the examination. The e-Admit Card for the Mains will not be generated without this submission.
Fee Payment: Candidates (other than Female, PwBD, SC, and ST candidates who are fee-exempted) must pay ₹200 as the Mains application fee.
Scribe and Assistive Device Details: Candidates who need a scribe, assistive device, or question paper in large print for the Mains must submit or update those details during this window.
Cadre Preference: Candidates must fill in their cadre preference for the Civil Services (Main) Examination, 2026 during this window.
Candidates who already uploaded required documents earlier and have nothing to update must still log in and submit the form to confirm their details. Without this final submission, the e-Admit Card will not be issued.
