UGC NET June 2026 Notification

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has opened the online registration portal for the UGC-NET June 2026 examination. The notification was released on 29 April 2026, and candidates can submit their online applications from 29 April 2026 to 20 May 2026. The University Grants Commission (UGC) has entrusted NTA with conducting this national-level eligibility test for 85 subjects in Computer Based Test mode.

UGC-NET determines the eligibility of Indian nationals for the award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and appointment as Assistant Professor, appointment as Assistant Professor and admission to Ph.D., or admission to Ph.D. only in Indian universities and colleges. Candidates who are interested and meet the eligibility criteria can apply online through the official website at ugcnet.nta.nic.in before the last date.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must hold a Master’s degree or equivalent from a UGC-recognized university with at least 55% marks for General/Unreserved category and 50% marks for OBC-NCL/SC/ST/PwD/Third Gender candidates. Candidates pursuing the final year of their Master’s degree can apply on a provisional basis. Those who hold a 4-year Bachelor’s degree with 75% marks (70% for reserved categories) are also eligible to apply for JRF and Ph.D. admission as per the new UGC norms.

The age limit varies by category. For Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), the maximum age is 30 years as on 1 June 2026. There is no upper age limit for Assistant Professor or admission to Ph.D. Candidates from OBC-NCL, SC, ST, PwD, Third Gender, and women categories get up to 5 years of relaxation in the upper age limit for JRF. Exam Pattern

The UGC-NET June 2026 will be conducted in CBT mode with two papers in a single session of three hours. Paper 1 has 50 questions on teaching and research aptitude, and Paper 2 has 100 questions on the subject chosen by the candidate. Each correct answer carries 2 marks, and there is no negative marking. The total duration is 3 hours with no break between the two papers.

Note: Candidates can submit only one application form. Submitting more than one form may lead to cancellation of candidature. Aadhaar verification is advised while filling the form for smooth processing.

How to Apply for UGC NET June 2026?

Eligible candidates can apply online for the UGC-NET June 2026 examination by following the steps given below. The application process is online only, and forms submitted in any other mode will not be accepted.

Visit the official NTA UGC-NET website at ugcnet.nta.nic.in.
Click on the “New Registration” link or sign in through the Meri Pehchan single sign-on service using Aadhaar, PAN or DigiLocker.
Register with a valid email ID and mobile number to generate the application number and password.
Log in with the application number and fill in personal, academic, and contact details. Select the subject and four preferred exam cities.
Upload a recent passport-size photograph and signature in the prescribed format. Use the Image Resizer tool to fit the file size requirements.
Pay the applicable application fee through Credit Card, Debit Card, Net Banking or UPI.
Submit the form and download the confirmation page for future reference.

Candidates must provide their own email address and mobile number, or that of parents/guardians, since all communication from NTA will be sent to the registered email and mobile number. The correction window will be open from 22 May 2026 to 24 May 2026 for candidates who want to edit their submitted application form.
