Special Assam TET 2026
The Government of Assam, Department of School Education, has released an official advertisement (No. 740235/1562055) to conduct the Special Assam Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) 2026. This special TET is being organized for Lower Primary (LP) and Upper Primary (UP) levels specifically for Bodo, Garo, Manipuri, and Hmar mediums. This initiative is taken under the provision of Section 23 of the RTE Act – 2009 to address the shortage of teachers in these specific language mediums.
Interested and eligible candidates who are permanent residents of Assam can apply online through the official portal. The online application process commenced on 7 January 2026. Qualified candidates of this Special TET will be eligible to participate in future recruitment processes for teacher posts in elementary level schools, provided they meet other academic and professional norms laid down by the NCTE.

Exam Name: Special Assam Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) – 2026

Target Mediums: Bodo, Garo, Manipuri, and Hmar
Certificate Validity: Unless otherwise notified by the Government, the TET certificate will remain valid for a lifetime.
Exam Centres: The examination will be held in the following districts: Cachar, Dibrugarh, Kokrajhar, Kamrup, Kamrup Metro, Hojai, and Sonitpur. Candidates must select one Centre District.
Eligibility Criteria
Residence: The candidate must be a permanent resident of the State of Assam.
Minimum Qualification for Lower Primary TET (Classes I to V): Candidates must possess Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed). Alternatively, candidates with Senior Secondary (50% marks) and 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed), or Senior Secondary (50% marks) and 2-year Diploma in Education (Special Education), or Graduation and 2-year D.El.Ed are eligible.
Minimum Qualification for Upper Primary TET (Classes VI to VIII): Candidates must have Graduation and a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed). Alternatively, Graduation with at least 50% marks and B.Ed, or Post Graduation with at least 55% marks and 3-year integrated B.Ed.-M.Ed, or Senior Secondary (50% marks) and 4-year B.El.Ed, or Senior Secondary (50% marks) and 4-year B.A./B.Sc. Ed. or B.A. Ed/B.Sc. Ed, or Graduation with at least 50% marks and 1-year B.Ed. (Special Education) are eligible.
Relaxation: A relaxation up to 5% in academic marks in HSSLC or Graduation is applicable for candidates belonging to SC, ST, OBC, MOBC, and PWD(PH) categories.
Structure and Content of Exam
The examination will consist of Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs). Each paper will have 150 questions carrying 150 marks. The duration of the examination is 2 ½ hours (150 minutes) for each paper. There will be no negative marking.
Paper I (LP) Subjects: Child Development & Pedagogy, Language I (Bodo/ Garo/ Manipuri/ Hmar), Language II (English), Mathematics, and Environmental Studies.
Paper II (UP) Subjects: Child Development & Pedagogy, Language I (Bodo/ Garo/ Manipuri/ Hmar), Language II (English), and either Mathematics & Science OR Social Science.
