Assam Polytechnic Admission 2026

The State Council for Technical Education (SCTE), Assam, under the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), Assam, has issued the official notification for admission into the 3-Year Diploma in Engineering and Technology Programme for the session 2026-27. Admission will be granted across 26 State Government Polytechnics of Assam, with a total intake of 4385 seats. Selection is based on marks obtained in the HSLC or equivalent examination with Mathematics and Science as compulsory subjects.

Eligible candidates can register and submit their online applications through the official DTE, Assam portal. Registration opens on 24 April 2026 and closes on 10 May 2026. The application fee is ₹300, payable online through SBI ePay. Counselling and admission dates will be notified later on the official website.

Eligibility Criteria for Assam Polytechnic Admission

Educational Qualification: Candidates must have passed the HSLC or equivalent examination in a single sitting with Mathematics and Science as compulsory subjects, without grace marks. Candidates also need to pass individually in both theory and practical/internal assessment.

Minimum Marks Required (Average of Maths and Science): 40% for General and OBC/MOBC-NCL candidates, 35% for SC candidates, 33% for ST candidates. For Persons with Disabilities (PwD), the required percentage is as per the original category. No compartmental candidate is allowed to take admission.

Age Limit: Minimum 16 years as on 31-12-2026 (born on or before 31-12-2010). There is no upper age limit. Candidates can calculate their age here to confirm eligibility.

Residential Eligibility: Candidates must be Indian citizens and Permanent Residents of Assam. The Permanent Resident Certificate (PRC) of Assam is required at the time of counselling. Candidates without a final PRC at the time of application can submit the PRC undertaking (Annexure-III).

Physical Fitness: Candidates must be physically and mentally fit. A fitness certificate from a registered medical practitioner is optional at the time of admission.

Eligibility for NCC Quota

Selection under the NCC quota is based on the NCC Examination Certificate received from the Commanding Officer or higher level. Ranking follows the order of certificate (C, B, A) and grading (A, B, C), with C-Grade A treated as Rank-I and A-Grade C treated as Rank-IX.

Eligibility for Sports Quota

Candidates must be medal winners (Gold, Silver, or Bronze) of State Games, State Championships, or Tournaments organised by the Assam Olympic Association, State Sports Association, or Directorate of Sports and Youth Welfare, Assam. Medals must have been received within the last 3 years.

Government Polytechnics in Assam

The 3-Year Diploma in Engineering and Technology Programme is offered across 26 State Government Polytechnics of Assam. Two of these institutes, Padmashree Chandraprava Saikiani Girls’ Polytechnic, Guwahati and Residential Girls’ Polytechnic, Golaghat, are exclusively for female students.

Programmes Offered Under Assam Polytechnic Admission

21 different diploma programmes are offered across the 26 Government Polytechnics. The list includes Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering, Mechanical (Automobile) Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Instrumentation Technology, Bio-Medical Engineering, Medical Electronics, Industrial and Production Engineering, Mining Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Architectural Assistantship, Textile Technology, Textile Design, Garment Technology, Fashion Technology, Printing Technology, and Food Processing Technology.

Reservation of Seats

Seat reservation follows the Government of Assam guidelines. Reserved categories include SC (Assam), ST (Plains) and ST (Hills) of Assam, OBC/MOBC-NCL (including TGLC/Ex-TGLC, Koch-Rajbangsi, Tai-Ahom, Chutia, Moran, Matak communities), EWS, Grandson/Granddaughter of Freedom Fighter, Son/Daughter of Retired Defence Person, NCC Quota, Sports Quota, Persons with Disabilities (PwD), Tuition Fee Waiver (TFW), Technical School Leaving Certificate (TSLC), Other State Nominees, and Son/Daughter of Central Government Employees (CGE) posted in Assam for less than 20 years.

Note: PRC holders of Assam are not eligible to apply under CGE quota even if their parents are Central Government employees. Candidates failing to specify their category at the time of online form fill-up will be considered as Unreserved.

Application Fee

The one-time non-refundable application fee is ₹300 (plus applicable taxes, if any), payable online through SBI ePay. Available payment options include Debit Card, Credit Card, Prepaid Card, Internet Banking, and UPI. The application is considered complete only after the portal reflects the payment as successful.

Admission Fees Payable at Institute

Candidates must pay the admission fees at the time of document verification at the institute where they receive their first seat allotment. Total amount payable during admission is ₹4800 for all candidates and ₹4300 for Tuition Fee Waiver (TFW) candidates. These amounts exclude examination fees, hostel rent, and mess dues.

Documents Required for Application

Candidates need scanned copies of the following documents during the online form fill-up. Photographs and signature must be in JPG/JPEG format (10kb to 500kb). All other documents can be in JPG, JPEG, or PDF format (10kb to 500kb). Candidates can use the image resizer tool to adjust file sizes before upload.

Required documents include scanned photograph and signature, age proof (HSLC admit card, certificate, or marksheet), valid ID proof (PAN Card, School ID, Passport, Voter ID, Ration Card with photo, Bank Passbook with photo, Driving License, or other Government photo ID), Class 10 marksheet and certificate, Class 12 marksheet and certificate (if available), Permanent Residence Certificate (PRC) or PRC undertaking (Annexure-III), Caste Category certificate (if applicable), NCL certificate or undertaking for OBC/MOBC applicants, EWS certificate or undertaking for EWS applicants, NCC or Sports certificate (if applying under those quotas), PwD certificate (UDID) for PwD applicants, Income certificate or TFW undertaking for TFW applicants, and relevant certificates for CGE quota applicants.

How to Apply for Assam Polytechnic Admission 2026?

The application process consists of four broad steps: registration on the online portal, profile and form fill-up with document upload, choice filling for institutes and branches, and payment of the registration fee. Follow the steps below to complete the application.

Visit the official DTE, Assam website at https://dte.assam.gov.in and click on the link for “Admission into State Government Polytechnics for the session 2026-27”.

Click on “New Registration” and read the Important Instructions carefully.

Enter your full name in capital letters, date of birth, email, mobile number, password, and the captcha. Use your own email and mobile number as these will be used for further communication.

Enter the OTP sent to your email or mobile and complete the captcha to finish registration. Note down the registration number for future reference.

Log in using your registered email ID and password to start the form fill-up process.

Fill in your profile details including caste category, PRC, ID proof, blood group, citizenship, family details, and combined family income.

Fill in the address and click “Save and Next”. Then complete the “Other Details” page including TFW, NCC, and TSLC information if applicable.

Upload all required documents in the Upload Section, then click “Submit and Lock” followed by “Confirm and Lock”.

Select Programme Level as “Diploma Programmes” and Programme as “3 Years Diploma in Engineering and Technology in Polytechnic” to begin choice filling.

Select a minimum of 3 preferences (up to 79 for male and 84 for female candidates) in order of priority.

Fill in your Class 10 marks and other academic details. Class 12 pass students can also enter their Class 12 data.

Upload Class 10 marksheet and certificate, and Class 12 documents if applicable.

Click “Final Preview”, verify all details, check the verification boxes, and click “Payment Gateway SBI Epay” to pay ₹300.

After successful payment, the form will be submitted and you will be redirected to the dashboard. Take a printout of the application form for future reference.

Note: Providing wrong information will lead to cancellation of the application during verification. Candidates are advised to carefully select their preferences as no transfer is allowed during the first year of the diploma programme.

Counselling and Admission Process

After application closes, document verification is conducted before the counselling process begins. Seat allotment is made based on eligibility, rank, caste/category, choice/preference, and seat availability. Candidates can accept the allotted seat through the portal, download the allotment letter, and report to the allotted institute on the specified date for physical document verification. After admission, candidates can choose to freeze the seat or opt for upgradation in subsequent rounds.

Note: Candidates should be cautious of fraudsters demanding money for admission fees online. Only the application fee of ₹300 is to be paid online during form fill-up. All other admission fees should be paid only after visiting the allotted Polytechnic Institute.
