OBC Scholarship Assam 2026
The Directorate of Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes, Assam has invited online applications for the OBC Scholarship Assam 2026-27. Students of the Other Backward Classes (OBC) community of Assam can apply for both the Pre-Matric and Post-Matric schemes through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP). The application window opened on 1 June 2026 and stays open till 30 September 2026 for both fresh and renewal candidates.
These are centrally sponsored schemes funded by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India. The Pre-Matric scholarship covers OBC students of Class IX and X, while the Post-Matric scholarship covers students from Class XI and above. Scholarship Amount for OBC Students
Under the Pre-Matric scheme, OBC students in Classes IX and X studying in Government schools receive a consolidated academic allowance of ₹4,000 per annum. The Post-Matric amount depends on the course group, as shown below.

The Post-Matric amount covers the academic allowance and the tuition fee component for the full duration of the course. The entire amount is paid into the student’s bank account through DBT.
Eligibility Criteria of OBC Scholarship Assam
The applicant must be an Indian national and a permanent resident of Assam belonging to the OBC community with a valid caste certificate. For the Pre-Matric scheme, the student should be studying full-time in Class IX or X in a Government school. For the Post-Matric scheme, the student should be studying in Class XI or any higher recognised course after passing matriculation.
The annual income of the parents or guardians from all sources should not be more than ₹2.5 lakh. A scholar cannot hold any other scholarship at the same time. For renewal, an attendance of at least 75% in the previous academic year is required. Only two boys from the same family can receive the scholarship, and this limit does not apply to girl students.
Required Documents for Application
Keep the following documents ready before you apply. Scanned copies should be clear and within the size allowed on the portal, so you can resize your photo and documents here if needed.
Caste Certificate: OBC caste certificate issued by the Office of the District Commissioner of the respective district.
Income Certificate: Parents/guardians’ income certificate issued by the Circle Officer of the respective Revenue Circle.
Bonafide Certificate: Issued by the Head of the Institution.
Aadhaar & Bank Account: Aadhaar number and an active bank account seeded with Aadhaar (mandatory for DBT).
Other: Recent passport-size photograph and previous marksheet, where the portal asks for an upload.

How to Apply for OBC Scholarship Assam?
OTR (One-Time Registration) is mandatory this year for both fresh and renewal applicants. OTR gives you a 14-digit number based on your Aadhaar that stays valid for your whole academic career, so you do not have to register fresh every year. Generate the OTR first, then apply for the scheme. The same steps work for the SC and ST scholarship schemes of Assam too; you only pick a different scheme at the selection stage.

Note: Give only a bank account that is active and seeded with your Aadhaar number. Payments go through DBT, and the authority will not be responsible for failed transactions caused by inactive or wrong bank details.
