Assam NMMS Exam 2026
The Directorate of Secondary Education, Assam has invited online applications for the National Means Merit Scholarship Examination 2026. The screening test is for students studying in Class VIII during the 2026-27 academic session. The examination will be held at 169 centres across Assam on 28 November 2026, and the state quota is 2,411 scholarships.
Eligible students can submit the online form up to 8 November 2026. After the application process, we will update the NMMS admit card page with the download link, while the selection status will be published on the Assam NMMS result page.

Eligibility Criteria of Assam NMMS Exam
Class: The student must be studying in Class VIII during the 2026-27 academic session.
School: Students of Government and Provincialised schools under the Department of School Education, Government of Assam will be considered for scholarship selection.
Class VII Marks: Under the NMMSS guidelines, the student should have at least 55% marks or an equivalent grade in Class VII. The requirement is relaxed by 5% for SC and ST students.
Parental Income: The annual income of the student’s parents from all sources must not exceed ₹3.50 lakh.
Private, JNV and KV Students: Students of private schools, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas and Kendriya Vidyalayas may appear in the examination, but they will not be considered for the scholarship.
Eligibility Summary: A Class VIII student of a Government or Provincialised school in Assam can be considered for the scholarship if the applicable Class VII marks and parental income conditions are met.
Scholarship Details of NMMS
Assam has a quota of 2,411 students under the scheme. A selected student can receive ₹12,000 per year, equivalent to ₹1,000 per month, from Class IX to Class XII subject to the renewal rules of the scheme. The scholarship is paid through Direct Benefit Transfer to the student’s bank account.
OTR Registration for NMMS Exam
One-Time Registration on the National Scholarship Portal is compulsory before filling out the Assam NMMS application form. Students should complete OTR first and keep the registration details ready. The OTR and NMMS application links are available in the Important Links section.
UDISE Code: A student of a Government or Provincialised school must enter the correct UDISE code of the school where the student is currently studying.

Payment Method: The examination fee can be paid online after the student submits the application and logs in to the account.
NMMS Examination Fee Exemption
Every Government and Provincialised school must enrol at least the top 3 eligible students whose parental annual income does not exceed ₹3.50 lakh. The Directorate will exempt the examination fee for the top 3 eligible students of each school on the basis of Class VII marks or percentage.
For schools in the Sixth Schedule Areas and Bodoland Territorial Region, the fee exemption will cover the top 5 eligible students from each school whose parental annual income is below ₹3.50 lakh. The Head of the Institution must submit the list of eligible students to the Inspector of Schools on or before 27 October 2026.
Note: A student who has already paid the examination fee will not receive a refund even if selected for fee exemption.

Mental Ability Test: MAT tests verbal and non-verbal reasoning, critical thinking, analogy, classification, numerical series, pattern perception, and similar abilities.
Scholastic Aptitude Test: SAT covers science, social studies and mathematics taught in Classes VII and VIII.
