NERIE B.Ed Admission 2026

The North East Regional Institute of Education (NERIE), Shillong has released the official Information Bulletin for admission to its 2-year B.Ed programme for the 2026-2028 session. Candidates from the eight North Eastern states will be selected through the Common Entrance Examination (CEE) 2026 conducted by NCERT. The online application window is open from 15 May 2026 to 10 June 2026, and the entrance exam will be held on 3 July 2026 in CBT mode.

NERIE is one of the nine constituent units of the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), New Delhi, and caters to the educational needs of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura. The institute is located at Umiam, about 20 km from Shillong city, close to the Umiam Lake. Eligible candidates can register on the CEE portal at cee.ncert.gov.in and select NERIE Shillong as their preferred institute. The final merit list will be prepared on the basis of 60% weightage from the entrance exam and 40% from the qualifying graduation marks.

Eligibility Criteria for NERIE B.Ed 2026

Candidates must hold at least 50% marks in a Bachelor’s Degree and/or Master’s Degree in Sciences, Social Sciences, or Humanities, or a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Technology with specialisation in Science or Mathematics with 55% marks, or any equivalent qualification. A relaxation of 5% is given to SC, ST and PwD candidates. There is no restriction on the year of passing the qualifying examination.

Applicants must be permanent residents of one of the eight North Eastern states covered by NERIE. As proof, candidates can submit either a domicile/nativity/residence certificate from the competent authority, evidence of having passed the qualifying examination from the concerned state, or a posting certificate of a parent or guardian working in a State/Central Government office located in the state.

Candidates who scored less than 50% in graduation (45% for reserved categories) but qualify on the basis of their Master’s degree marks must still submit their graduation aggregate marks in the application form, since the 40% weightage in the merit list is calculated from graduation marks.

CEE 2026 Exam Pattern

The CEE 2026 for B.Ed (Group B) is an offline OMR-based test of 2 hours with 80 multiple-choice questions spread across three sections. Each correct answer carries 2 marks, each wrong answer attracts a negative marking of 0.5 mark, and unattended questions carry no marks. The total marks of the paper are 160.

CEE 2026 Syllabus

Language Proficiency in English: Comprehension, rearrangement of sentences, fill in the blanks, spotting errors, equivalent meanings of phrases, sentence completion, sequencing, and grammar covering synonyms, antonyms, idioms, prepositions, tenses and articles.

Teaching Aptitude: Attitude towards education, children and the teaching profession; interest in teaching; leadership and group management; emotional and social adjustment; intrapersonal and interpersonal skills; digital initiatives and pedagogy; National Education Policy 2020 and school education; NCF-SE 2023; and general awareness of contemporary issues in school education.

Reasoning Ability: Verbal and non-verbal reasoning, missing numbers, number and letter series, theme finding, jumbling, analogy, odd one out, sentence arrangement, statement and conclusions, syllogism, logical problems, and establishing relationships.

Selection Process and Merit List

The final merit list will be prepared on a 60:40 weightage basis. The CEE 2026 entrance exam score contributes 60% of the final rank, and the aggregate marks of the qualifying graduation examination contribute the remaining 40%. Candidates who qualify on the basis of their Master’s degree will still have their graduation aggregate marks counted under the 40% weightage. Final admission is offered after counselling based on this combined merit.

Exam Cities for North East Candidates

Candidates must select any five examination cities while filling the form. The cities most convenient for North East applicants are Guwahati, Shillong, Silchar, Jorhat, Umiam, Gangtok, and Port Blair. Other available centres across India include Delhi, Kolkata, Patna, Ranchi, Bhubaneswar, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bhopal, and several more. NCERT may add or drop centres later depending on registrations, and no change requests will be entertained after city allotment.
