NEET UG 2026 – National Eligibility Entrance Test

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has invited online applications for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Undergraduate (NEET UG) 2026. This examination is conducted for admission to undergraduate medical education courses, including MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BUMS, BSMS, BHMS, and B.Sc Nursing in all medical institutions across India. Eligible and interested candidates can submit their online applications through the official NEET portal from 8 February 2026 to 11 March 2026. The examination will be conducted on 3 May 2026 in a single shift from 02:00 PM to 05:00 PM (IST).

NEET UG 2026 Examination Details

The NEET UG 2026 examination will consist of 180 compulsory multiple-choice questions from Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (Botany & Zoology). The test duration is 180 minutes (3 hours), and the total marks are 720. The examination will be conducted in Pen and Paper mode (offline) as a single-day, single-shift exam. Candidates will be awarded four marks (+4) for each correct answer, and one mark (-1) will be deducted for each incorrect answer. The exam will be conducted in 13 languages, including Assamese, Bengali, English, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu.

Military Nursing Service (MNS) aspirants seeking admission to B.Sc Nursing Courses being conducted at Armed Forces Medical Service Hospitals for the year 2026 are required to qualify for NEET UG. The NEET UG score will be used for selection to the four-year B.Sc Nursing course.

Eligibility Criteria for NEET UG 2026

Candidates must have completed the age of 17 years on or before 31 December 2026 to be eligible for NEET UG 2026. Accordingly, candidates born on or before 31 December 2009 are eligible to apply. There is no upper age limit for appearing in NEET UG 2026 as per the latest notification from the National Medical Commission (NMC).

The candidates should have passed Higher Secondary Examination (Class 12) or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English as subjects. Candidates appearing in Class 12 in 2026 may also apply provisionally, but they must pass the qualifying examination before the first round of counselling. Indian Nationals, Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), Overseas Citizens of India (OCI), and Foreign Nationals are eligible to appear in NEET UG 2026. Processing charges and Goods and Services Tax (GST) as applicable are to be paid by the candidate in addition to the examination fee. The fee can be submitted only through online mode using Net Banking, Credit Card, Debit Card, or UPI Services.

Qualifying Criteria and Percentile

To be eligible for admission to undergraduate medical courses, candidates must obtain minimum marks at the 50th percentile in NEET UG 2026 (for General and General-EWS category). For candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Classes (OBC-NCL), the minimum marks shall be at the 40th percentile. For candidates with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD), the minimum marks shall be at 45th percentile for General category and General-EWS category candidates, and 40th percentile for SC/ST/OBC-NCL candidates.

How to Apply for NEET UG 2026?

Candidates can apply for NEET UG 2026 through the online mode only by following these steps:

Step 1: Visit the official NEET website at neet.nta.nic.in.

Step 2: Click on the “Register for NEET UG 2026” link on the homepage and complete the registration process by providing your basic details including name, date of birth, mobile number, and email ID. A system-generated application number will be created.

Step 3: Log in using the application number and password created during registration. Fill in the complete application form with personal details, educational qualifications, examination centre preferences, and medium of question paper.

Step 4: Upload scanned copies of recent passport-size photograph (taken after 1 January 2026), signature, left and right hand fingers and thumb impressions, and other required documents as per specifications. Candidates can use the Image Resize Tool to resize their photographs as per the required dimensions.

Step 5: Pay the application fee online through Net Banking, Credit Card, Debit Card, or UPI mode. Keep the transaction details safe for future reference.

Step 6: After successful payment, download and save the confirmation page of the application form. Take multiple printouts of the confirmation page for future reference.

Note: Only one application should be submitted by a candidate. Multiple applications will not be accepted and will lead to cancellation of candidature. The application form in any other mode except online will not be accepted. Candidates are not required to send the confirmation page or any other document to NTA by post, fax, email, or by hand.

Important Instructions for NEET UG 2026

Candidates must ensure that the mobile numbers and email ID filled in the online application form are their own or their parents/guardians only, as NTA will communicate through SMS or email only. The information entered by candidates in their online application form will be treated as final after payment of application fees and generation of confirmation page. Any request for change in these particulars will not be considered by NTA except during the stipulated correction window period.

Candidates are advised to take 6-8 passport-size coloured photographs with white background for use during the application process, examination, and counselling/admission processes. The same photograph should be used for all documents related to NEET UG 2026. Candidates should not bring any barred items including mobile phones, calculators, electronic watches, geometry boxes, or any communication devices to the examination centre. The candidates will be subjected to extensive and compulsory frisking before entering the examination centre with the help of highly sensitive metal detectors.

Counselling and Admission Process

Admissions to all seats of undergraduate medical and dental courses will be done through NEET UG 2026. The counselling for successful candidates under 15% All India Quota and in Central Institutions (AIIMS/JIPMER/ESIC/Central Universities including DU/BHU/AMU) and Deemed Universities will be conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). The counselling for admission to seats under the control of State Governments/UT Administrations/State Universities shall be conducted by the designated authorities of the respective State Governments.

For BAMS, BUMS, BSMS, and BHMS courses, the AYUSH Admissions Central Counselling Committee (AACCC) shall be the counselling authority for All India Quota seats. The reservation policy of the Central Government applicable to NEET UG examination includes 10% seats for Economically Weaker Section (EWS), 15% for Scheduled Caste (SC), 7.5% for Scheduled Tribe (ST), 27% for Other Backward Classes belonging to Non-Creamy Layer (OBC-NCL), and 5% horizontal reservation for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD).
