The Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) successfully conducted the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test (JNVST) for Class VI admission in the academic session 2026-27 on 13 December 2025. Candidates who appeared in this selection test can check their results on the official NVS website once declared. The result is announced on 17 March 2026 for summer-bound Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas and by May 2026 for winter-bound JNVs. The result will contain the list of provisionally selected candidates who will be eligible for admission to Class VI in their respective district JNVs.
The selection test was held in two phases across the country. Phase 1 was conducted on Saturday, 13 December 2025 at 11:30 AM for most states including Assam, while Phase 2 was scheduled for Saturday, 11 April 2026 at 11:30 AM for select states and districts. Understanding the JNVST Selection Process
The Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test is the primary process for admission into Navodaya Vidyalayas. The selection test consisted of three sections: Mental Ability Test (40 questions for 50 marks), Arithmetic Test (20 questions for 25 marks), and Language Test (20 questions for 25 marks). Each correct answer carried 1.25 marks with no negative marking for incorrect answers. Candidates were required to secure minimum qualifying marks in each section: 14 marks in Mental Ability, 7 marks in Arithmetic, and 7 marks in Language.
The selection is made on merit basis considering the total marks obtained by candidates in all three sections. At least 75% of the seats in each district are filled by candidates from rural areas, while the remaining seats are open and filled from both urban and rural area candidates. Reservation is provided for Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC), and differently-abled students as per government norms.
What is Included in the Result?
Provisional Selection List: The result will contain the names and roll numbers of candidates who have been provisionally selected for admission to Class VI in their respective district JNVs.
Category-wise Selection: Candidates will be selected category-wise including rural, urban, SC, ST, OBC, and differently-abled categories as per the reservation policy.
Wait Lists: NVS will release only two wait lists against vacancies which may arise due to unwillingness and non-submission of basic essential certificates by the provisionally selected candidates.
Display Locations: The result will be displayed at the offices of the concerned Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, District Education Officer, District Magistrate, Deputy Commissioner of Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti of the region, and on the official website www.navodaya.gov.in.
Individual Communication: The Principal of the concerned Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya will inform the provisionally selected candidates telephonically on the registered mobile number followed by a speed post.
Tie-Breaking Criteria
In case of a tie between two or more candidates who have the same total marks, the decision will be taken in the following order: First, the candidate who scores higher marks in Mental Ability Test will be preferred. If Mental Ability Test marks are also equal, the candidate who secures more marks in Arithmetic will be preferred. If both Mental Ability and Arithmetic marks are equal, the candidate who secures more marks in Language will be preferred.
Additionally, an ST candidate will be given preference over an SC candidate, an SC candidate over General and OBC candidates, and an OBC candidate over a General candidate. A girl will be given preference over a boy, and a candidate who is younger in age will be preferred by considering better IQ level.
Next Steps After Result Declaration
Document Verification: Provisionally selected candidates will have to submit various documents at the time of admission including proof of date of birth, residence certificate, eligibility certificates, Aadhaar card copy, study certificates of Classes III, IV and V, medical fitness certificate, and category certificates if applicable.
Verification Process: Verification of proofs for residence of district, age, eligibility including district of study, and category (Rural/Urban and OBC, SC, ST, Divyang) will be done for all provisionally selected candidates through the laid down procedure after declaration of results.
Admission Timeline: The entire admission process including release of wait lists will be closed by 31 December 2026. However, NVS has the right to modify the same due to administrative reasons if any.
Migration Provision: Students of a JNV located in Hindi speaking state may have to be migrated to another JNV in non-Hindi speaking state and vice-versa for one academic year when the students are promoted to Class IX.
Important Note: Provisional selection in the selection test will not vest any right on the candidate to secure admission into the JNV. At the time of seeking actual admission, each provisionally selected candidate will have to produce all relevant original certificates as prescribed by the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti. Until admission, the selection is provisional only.

Documents Required for Admission
The parents of the candidates who are provisionally selected for admission will have to submit the following documents at the time of admission for verification:
Proof for Date of Birth: The copy of Birth Certificate issued by competent Government Authority concerned.
Residence Certificate: The valid residential proof as notified by Government of India of the parent of the same district where the JNV is located and the candidate has studied Class V.
Copy of Aadhaar Card: As per section 7 of Aadhaar Act 2016, the provisionally selected candidate has to submit the copy of Aadhaar Card to get admission under the Navodaya Vidyalaya Scheme.
Rural Quota Certificate: For candidates seeking admission under rural quota, a certificate from the competent authority to the effect that the child had studied Class III, IV and V in an institution or school located in a rural area.
Study Certificate: Certificate by the Head Master of the school regarding study details of Class III, IV and V.
Medical Fitness Certificate: A medical fitness certificate from a registered medical practitioner.
Category Certificate: SC/ST certificate if applicable, or OBC certificate as per central list if applicable.
Disability Certificate: For candidates belonging to the differently-abled category, a medical certificate signed by Chief Medical Officer of the district concerned in appropriate format.
Transfer Certificate: The TC from parent school should be submitted after the verification of documents and confirmation of admission by the respective JNV with counter signature of District Education Authorities.
Undertaking for Migration: An undertaking accepting the migration policy of NVS.
