The Department of Posts has issued the Gramin Dak Sevak Online Engagement Schedule-II, July 2026 for 23,757 tentative vacancies. The recruitment covers Branch Postmaster (BPM), Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM) and Dak Sevak posts in postal circles across India. Assam Circle has 414 vacancies under Assamese, Bengali and Bodo language groups.
Online one-time registration will remain open from 31 August to 19 September 2026. Registered candidates can submit the application and pay the applicable fee from 2 September to 21 September 2026, up to 5 PM.

Educational Qualification
Class 10: The applicant must have passed the Secondary School Examination from a recognised Board with passing marks in Mathematics and English. An equivalent qualification from another board is not accepted under this notification.
Local Language: The applicant must have studied the prescribed local language at least up to Class 10 from a recognised Board.
Assam Circle: The prescribed language is Assamese outside the three Barak Valley districts and Bodoland Territorial Council areas, Bengali in the three Barak Valley districts, and Bodo in the Bodoland Territorial Council areas.
Other Qualifications: The applicant must have knowledge of computers and cycling, along with adequate means of livelihood.
Can I apply?: A Class 10 pass candidate who has studied Mathematics, English and the prescribed local language, and is within the applicable age limit, can apply for eligible posts displayed by the system.

Pay Scale
GDS employees receive Time Related Continuity Allowance (TRCA). The TRCA carries an annual increase of 3%, subject to the applicable conditions, along with Dearness Allowance and other admissible benefits.

Job Profile and Residence
Branch Postmaster: A BPM manages the day-to-day postal and India Post Payments Bank operations of a Branch Post Office. The selected candidate must arrange suitable accommodation for the Branch Post Office at their own cost and reside in the post village.
Assistant Branch Postmaster: An ABPM assists the BPM, handles postal and IPPB work, and may perform combined BPM duties when required. The selected candidate must reside within the delivery jurisdiction of the concerned Branch Post Office.
Dak Sevak: Duties may include mail handling, delivery, postal transactions and assistance in Post Offices, Sorting Offices, Mail Offices or Delivery Centres. The selected candidate must reside within the delivery jurisdiction of the office to which they are attached.
Selection Process of India Post Recruitment
System-generated Merit List: Applicants will be shortlisted through a system-generated merit list based on Class 10 marks. Marks or converted grades and points will be aggregated as a percentage accurate to 4 decimal places. No written examination is mentioned in the notification.
Physical Verification of Documents: Shortlisted candidates must report to the designated Divisional or Unit Head within 15 days from the date of shortlisting. Final selection is subject to successful physical verification of original documents.
Pre-engagement Formalities: After successful verification, the candidate must complete the joining formalities within 30 days from the offer of provisional engagement. These formalities include 3 days of prescribed basic training and, for BPM candidates, arranging the required accommodation.
