GU B.Ed Merit List 2026

Gauhati University has published the merit list of the B.Ed. Common Entrance Test (GUBEDCET) 2026 on 28 July 2026. The entrance test was held on 19 July 2026 in OMR mode across the centres in Assam, and the rank list prepared from it decides admission into the two-year B.Ed. programme in the colleges affiliated to the university for the 2026-2027 session.

The rank list is prepared only on the marks obtained in GUBEDCET 2026. Marks of the qualifying degree carry no weightage, and no affiliated college can admit a candidate directly, so the rank a candidate gets in this list is what decides the seat.

How the GUBEDCET Merit List is Prepared

The university prepares the rank list purely from the GUBEDCET 2026 score, after applying its reservation and relaxation policy. A candidate who scores below the cut-off is not placed in the list, which is why the 80 and 60 mark limits matter more than the raw rank.

When two or more candidates score equal marks, their inter-se merit is decided in the following order: first, by the ratio of positive marks to negative marks, where the candidate with the higher absolute value of this ratio gets the better rank; second, by the number of unanswered questions, where fewer unanswered questions means a better rank; and third, if the tie still remains, the older candidate gets the higher rank.

Note: The notification states clearly that a candidate cannot claim a seat without fulfilling the NCTE eligibility criteria, even if the name appears in the merit list prepared by Gauhati University. The final check rests with the college.

Merit List Date and What Happened Last Year

The declared date for the GUBEDCET 2026 merit list is 28 July 2026, that is nine days after the entrance test. Candidates should treat this as the scheduled date rather than a guaranteed one, because the same schedule slipped last year. GUBEDCET 2025 was held on 20 July 2025, and its merit list was also announced for 28 July 2025, but the university issued the rank list notice only in the first week of August 2025.

How to Check GU B.Ed Merit List 2026?

The rank list is published as a notice in the entrance results section of the Gauhati University admissions portal. Keep your GUBEDCET roll number ready and follow these steps:

Step 1: Open the Merit List Link. Use the merit list link from the Important Links section below, which takes you to the entrance results page of the Gauhati University admissions portal.

Step 2: Find the B.Ed. Notice. Look for the notice titled Rank List for B.Ed. Common Entrance Test (GUBEDCET) 2026 and open the attached PDF.

Step 3: Search Your Roll Number. Use Ctrl+F on a computer, or the find option of your PDF reader on a mobile phone, to search your GUBEDCET roll number inside the list.

Step 4: Verify Your Details. Check your name, roll number, marks obtained, category, and rank. If anything is printed wrongly, inform the university before the admission schedule begins.

Step 5: Download and Print. Save the PDF and keep a printout, because the college will ask for it at the time of document verification.

Note: In the previous session, the rank list was published as an open PDF, so no login was needed to search a roll number. Candidates who registered on the Samarth portal can also log in with their credentials to view their application status.

What Happens After the Merit List

Seat allocation is handled by the affiliated colleges, not centrally by the university. Candidates whose names appear in the rank list have to approach the college of their choice as per the schedule that the college announces, and admission is confirmed only after the college completes document verification and finds the candidate eligible. Since each college works within its own approved intake, a rank that is comfortable for one college may not be enough for another.

Eligibility Verified Before Admission

A candidate must have passed BA, BSc, BCom, MA, MSc, MCom, or an equivalent degree from a recognised Board or University with at least 50% marks. Candidates from SC, ST, OBC and PWD categories need at least 45% marks. Those who applied while in the final year of the qualifying degree must produce the final marksheet at the time of verification, failing which the college will not confirm the admission.

Colleges normally verify the following documents once the merit list is out. Keep a set of originals along with two photocopies of each so that the verification is not delayed:
