Eligibility Criteria
Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s Degree (or Master’s Degree) in Sciences, Social Sciences, or Humanities with at least 50% marks in aggregate. Candidates with a Bachelor’s in Engineering or Technology specializing in Science and Mathematics need 55% marks or equivalent Grade Point. The 50% marks requirement is for the aggregate, not just the Honours/Major subject. A candidate scoring 50% or more in the Honours/Major subject but less than 50% in aggregate is not eligible.
A relaxation of 5% in qualifying marks is allowed for candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/MOBC/PWD categories, or those having a minimum of five years of teaching experience in a school recognized at least up to Class 10 by the Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB). The benefit of relaxation can be availed in only one of the above categories. Candidates appearing in their final degree examinations are also eligible to apply, but admission will be provisional until they submit their qualifying documents within the stipulated time.
Selection Process
Selection for B.Ed. admission is based on a combined score of 100 marks. The Common Entrance Test carries 70 marks, while career performance carries 30 marks. Career performance is calculated as 10% of the percentage of marks secured in HSLC, HS, Bachelor’s Degree, and Master’s Degree examinations. For example, a candidate scoring 53% in the Bachelor’s Degree (Major/Aggregate) gets 5.3 career performance marks for that examination. Final selection happens at the institution level based on combined CET and Career Performance marks.
