AIIMS Recruitment 2026
The Examination Section of All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi has released Notice No. 103/2026 dated 24 July 2026 for the Nursing Officer Recruitment Common Eligibility Test (NORCET) 11. A total of 2,218 Nursing Officer vacancies have been reported so far across 27 participating institutes and hospitals, and online registration is open from 24 July 2026 to 13 August 2026 up to 5:00 PM.
NORCET is a common eligibility test, which means one application and one examination are used to fill Nursing Officer posts at every participating institute. AIIMS New Delhi only conducts the examination and allocates seats on merit. The actual appointment, posting, seniority, and service conditions are decided by the institute where you are finally allocated a seat.
For candidates in Assam, this is one of the largest nursing recruitments of the year. AIIMS Guwahati alone has reported 188 Nursing Officer vacancies, which is the third highest count among all the participating AIIMS in this notification.
AIIMS NORCET 11 Recruitment Details

Pay Scale: Level 07 of the Pay Matrix, corresponding to the pre-revised Pay Band-2 of ₹9,300 to ₹34,800 with Grade Pay of ₹4,600
Gender Reservation: As per the decision taken in the 4th meeting of the CIB held on 27 July 2019, 80% of the seats at participating AIIMS are reserved for female candidates and 20% for male candidates.
Note: Candidates who have already registered under One Time Registration (OTR) in any previous AIIMS examination must apply using that same old ID. An application made with a different registration ID will be rejected, and the candidature is liable to be cancelled.
Educational Qualification
There are two separate qualification routes, and meeting either one of them is enough.
Route 1 (Degree): B.Sc (Hons) Nursing or B.Sc Nursing from an Indian Nursing Council or State Nursing Council recognised institute or university, or B.Sc (Post-Certificate) or Post-Basic B.Sc Nursing from such an institute or university, along with registration as Nurse and Midwife with the State or Indian Nursing Council.
Route 2 (Diploma): Diploma in General Nursing Midwifery (GNM) from an Indian Nursing Council or State Nursing Council recognised institute, board or council, registration as Nurse and Midwife with the State or Indian Nursing Council, and two years of experience in a hospital with a minimum of 50 beds.
The two years of experience under Route 2 is an essential criterion and is counted only after the essential qualification is complete, that is, after the residency period of the course is over, the result is declared and registration with the State or Indian Nursing Council is done. Experience gained before that stage will not be accepted.
In short, if you hold a B.Sc Nursing degree with a valid nursing council registration, you can apply straight away, and if you hold a GNM diploma, you additionally need two completed years of hospital experience as on 13 August 2026.

Age Limit

For all PwBD candidates, the maximum age on the crucial date must not exceed 56 years even after relaxation. Central Government civilian employees with at least three years of regular and continuous service get 5 years of relaxation, which becomes 8 years for OBC and 10 years for SC and ST employees, though this clause does not apply to AIIMS New Delhi and AIIMS CAPFIMS. Reserved category candidates who apply against unreserved vacancies will not get any age relaxation.

The fee is payable online through debit card, credit card, or net banking, and any transaction charge is borne by the candidate. The fee is not refunded under any circumstances, with one exception: SC and ST candidates who actually appear in the examination get their fee refunded after the results are declared and their caste certificate is verified. Applications submitted without the prescribed fee are summarily rejected.
Note: The category cannot be changed from SC or ST to UR, OBC or EWS once the registration fee is paid, so select your category carefully at the time of registration.
Selection Process
NORCET 11 is conducted in two successive computer-based stages. Both stages carry a negative marking of one-third of a mark for every wrong answer, and both are divided into timed sections that open one after another. Once a section closes, you cannot return to it, so any question you skip or mark for review in that section is lost.
1. Stage I: NORCET Preliminary
The Preliminary is only a screening test. It decides who moves to the Main examination, and its marks are not counted for the final merit.

The duration is 90 minutes, split into 5 sections of 18 minutes each with 20 questions per section. The qualifying standard is 50 percentile for UR and EWS, 45 percentile for OBC, and 40 percentile for SC and ST, with an additional 5 percentile relaxation for PwBD candidates of every category.
Clearing the percentile alone does not take you to Stage II. Only candidates equal to 5 times the total seats in each category are called for the Main examination, along with all qualified PwBD candidates and all candidates tied with the last candidate on that list.
2. Stage II: NORCET Main
The Main examination carries 160 multiple-choice questions of 160 marks in 180 minutes, arranged in 4 sections of 45 minutes with 40 questions each. The questions cover the entire nursing syllabus at the essential qualification level and are focused on case scenario-based problems that test practical nursing competency rather than plain recall.
The qualifying marks are 50% for UR and EWS, 45% for OBC and 40% for SC and ST, with 5% additional relaxation for PwBD candidates. The final merit list is prepared on the basis of the Stage II score alone, and if the examination is held in more than one shift, the normalisation procedure notified by AIIMS vide Notice No. 35/2023 dated 20 January 2023 is applied.
If two candidates score the same in Stage II, the tie is broken first by fewer wrong answers in Stage II, then by the Stage I score, then by fewer wrong answers in Stage I, then by age with the older candidate placed higher, and finally by alphabetical order of name.
3. Choice Filling and Seat Allocation
Qualified candidates are invited to fill choices of institutes at a later stage, and there is normally only one round of allocation. If you do not fill a choice for an institute you are eligible for, you will not be considered for it at any stage. A candidate who is allotted a seat must join it, because failing to join an allotted seat leads to mandatory cancellation of candidature for that NORCET. There is no waiting list, since NORCET is planned to be held twice a year.
