ADRE 3.0 Syllabus 2026
The Assam Direct Recruitment Examination (ADRE) is the Government of Assam’s large-scale recruitment process for filling Grade-III and Grade-IV vacancies across state departments. Two editions of ADRE have been completed so far. The second edition, ADRE 2.0, was conducted in 2024 for 12,673 vacancies, and appointment letters were distributed on 9 and 10 January 2026.
Candidates are now waiting for the third edition: ADRE 3.0. As confirmed by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the ADRE 3.0 notification will be released after the Assam Assembly Elections, which are expected in April–May 2026. Reports suggest that the government may announce over 10,000 to 15,000 vacancies under ADRE 3.0 for both Grade-III and Grade-IV categories.
The official syllabus for ADRE 3.0 has not been released yet. However, based on the pattern followed in ADRE 2.0 and the SLRC’s established framework, the exam pattern and syllabus are expected to remain largely similar. In this article, we have covered the expected syllabus, subject-wise marks distribution, and exam pattern for all five categories of the ADRE examination.

The SLRC conducts five separate written examinations under ADRE: three for Grade-III and two for Grade-IV. Each paper corresponds to a specific post category based on educational qualification. Candidates appear only in the paper that matches their post type.
ADRE Grade-III Syllabus
The Grade-III examination has three categories: Driver (HSLC), Higher Secondary (HSSLC), and Bachelor’s Degree (Graduation). Each category has a different exam pattern with varying subjects and marks distribution. The written exam for all three categories is 3 hours long and consists of 150 MCQs.

All 150 questions in the HSSLC-level exam carry 1 mark each, making the total 150 marks. General English and General Mathematics have the highest weightage with 35 questions each. Candidates should focus on these two subjects along with General Knowledge for maximum scoring potential.

The Bachelor’s Degree exam is the only ADRE paper where the total marks (175) exceed the number of questions (150). This is because the 25 Reading Comprehension and English Language questions carry 2 marks each, totalling 50 marks from that section alone. A wrong answer in this section costs 0.50 marks, so candidates should attempt these questions carefully.
ADRE Grade-IV Syllabus
The Grade-IV examination has two categories: Class VIII and Class X (Matriculation). Both exams share the same set of subjects and carry 135 marks each. The syllabus for Class VIII is based on the Elementary School Pass Level examination of SCERT, Assam. For the Class X category, it follows the HSLC examination syllabus of the Board of Secondary Education, Assam. The Class X category also includes candidates with ITI pass certificates in trades such as Wireman, Electrician, Fitter, Welder, Machinist, and Electronics Mechanic from Government of Assam-approved institutes.
Candidates with qualifications higher than HSSLC (Class XII) are not eligible for Grade-IV posts. This is an important condition that applicants must keep in mind.
Class VIII

Duration of Exam: 2 Hours 30 Minutes (150 Minutes)
Type of Questions: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)

Both Grade-IV papers have the same structure — 135 questions, 1 mark each, to be completed in 2 hours 30 minutes. The difference lies in the difficulty level. Class VIII questions are based on the SCERT elementary-level syllabus, while Class X questions follow the SEBA HSLC-level standard.

Social Studies
Topics include Physical Geography of India and the world, Economic and Social Geography of India, Geography of Assam, Ancient, Medieval and Modern Indian History, the Freedom Struggle, History of Assam, Indian Constitution, and basic Civics. Questions on Assam’s history, culture, and geography appear frequently.
General English
Expect questions on Sentence Correction, Error Spotting, Fill in the Blanks, Idioms and Phrases, Synonyms, Antonyms, One-word Substitution, Cloze Test, and Subject-Verb Agreement. For the Bachelor’s Degree level, the Reading Comprehension section carries 2 marks per question and tests passage-based comprehension, vocabulary, and inference skills.
General Mathematics
This section includes Number System, Percentage, Profit and Loss, Simple and Compound Interest, Time and Work, Time Speed and Distance, Ratio and Proportion, Averages, and basic Geometry. The difficulty level corresponds to the educational qualification required for the post.
Logical Reasoning and Mental Ability
Covers topics like Number Series, Coding-Decoding, Analogies, Blood Relations, Direction Sense, Statement and Conclusion, Embedded Figures, Pattern Recognition, and Syllogism. Regular practice is the best way to score well in this section.
Will the ADRE 3.0 Exam Pattern Change?
During ADRE 2.0, there was a last-minute proposal to conduct the exam in two phases: a Preliminary screening followed by a Main examination. The idea was dropped after widespread protests, and the government stuck to the single-phase MCQ format that had been originally notified.
For ADRE 3.0, there are reports suggesting that the government may introduce a two-phase examination from the beginning. If implemented, the first phase would be a preliminary screening with objective questions, and the second phase could include a more detailed examination beyond MCQs. However, no official notification has confirmed this yet. Candidates should prepare based on the existing MCQ format while staying alert for any official announcements from the SLRC.
